Homeland Memorial, Zagreb (Croatia)
In 2020, we took part as a glass supplier in the creation of the Homeland Memorial in the center of Zagreb, opposite the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. The monumental work was designed by Croatian architect Nedan Fabijanić, with the glass design created by Jan Frydrych and Jeronym Tišljar.
At the heart of the memorial is the so-called Wall of Pain – a translucent glass reinterpretation of the original brick wall bearing 13,600 names of fallen defenders from the Croatian War of Independence (1991–1995). The wall floats above the water’s surface, and thanks to underwater lighting, it appears to be born directly from a misty haze over the water.
A total of 820 blocks of top-quality optical glass were used in the project, with precisely ground and polished edges. The total weight of the delivered glass was approximately 30 tons.
We are glad that we could contribute our know-how to the creation of a work with such profound national and human significance.
